A white huddle of boxes tumbling down the hillside, surrounded by vineyards, the cosmopolitan village of Competa is just a 10 minute drive (or a lovely 45min walk) from the Finca. It has many bars, restaurants, shops of all kinds, banks and even has 2 discos.

To mention just a few of the most notable restaurants, the Pilon, in the centre of the village is reached up some very steep steps and the service, ambiance and international style food is second to none with lots of vegetarian options. Cortijo Pacos is another very good place to eat and drink with a cosy cocktail bar and a fabulous restaurant and terrace with stunning views over Competa all the way down to the Mediterranean. La Casona is set in an old house in the very attractive main square and serves good tapas and salads while Pericos next door serves a mixture of good tapas and Spanish food along with some international dishes. Both restaurants have inside and outside dining.

There are many other restaurants and bars dotted around the streets. 2 more worth of mention are La Bodega, a delightful old bar which still has an olive press and grinding stones and tools. The other is the Museo de Vino (Wine Museum), an eighteenth century inn serving the local sweet and potent Moscatel wine direct from the barrel.

There are several supermarkets, bakers, banks, a gym, tennis courts, post office, newsagents (selling English newspapers and magazines), pharmacies, giftshops and local produce shops, clothes shops and hairdressers.

Festivals: January: Feria del Barrio. July: Feria San Sebastion. August: Noche de Vino. September: Noche del Fuego. December: Navidad.
